Beet juice for icy roads ?

I know it sounds like one of those urban legends, but the use of beet juice mixed with salt brine is being applied to roadways to help with deicing. Now, I like juice, and definitely love beets, but I never heard of spreading it on roads to help with ice. Apparently, it’s now being used in Canada and the United States, and when used in the right mixture, this “organic liquid deicing “can reduce the amount of salt by 30%. If visions of purple roadways are dancing in your head…sorry to disappoint you....the special mixture is actually a brownish hue. It’s interesting to know that a little beet juice can go a long way and help save us a ton of money. And, if there’s less salt on the road, it could mean less corrosion for our cars. I like that idea. Bring on the juice!
