Drive The Sunshine Skyway While Living In Short Term Rentals

When staying in short term rentals in the Tampa Bay area be sure to see the Sunshine Skyway Bridge which crosses the Tampa Bay between Manatee County and Pinellas County. This is a continuous pre-stressed concrete cable-stayed construction that spans 4.1 miles from end to end. It is a section of I-275 and US 19 on the west coast of Florida. The original bridge was built in 1954 and was of steel cantilever construction.  It was a two lane bridge and in 1969 a duplicate bridge was built next to it to meet the standards for the Interstate system.  Prior to this bridge opening there was a ferry that ran from Point Pinellas on the north to Piney Point on the south.  The bridge is not without it's history and tragedy.  In January 1980 the buoy tender USCGC Blackthorn and the tanker Capricorn collided and 23 Coast Guard members died.  Again in 1980, this time in May, the freighter Summit Venture collided with a pier support during a thunderstorm and the southbound span toppled into the water.  Cars, a truck and a Greyhound bus fell 150 feet to the water and 35 people died. In 1987 the current bridge was completed and open to traffic.  It is thrilling to drive on this bridge and the view of the Tampa Bay area is spectacular.

Enjoy The Upper Tampa Bay Trail While Staying In Short Term Rentals In May

 Now is the perfect weather for some outdoor adventure.  When you are living in our short term rentals this month check out the Upper Tampa Bay Trail.    The trail is  located in residential northwest Hillsborough County. Currently, the trail runs along the west shore of Channel A from a trailhead off Memorial Highway/Montague St, past Waters Avenue, Linebaugh, and then due north to Gunn Highway, Ehrlich Road and ending at Peterson Road Park. The current 7.25 miles make up the first three phases of a four-phase project. Eventually, the Upper Tampa Bay Trail will extend seven to eight more miles, connecting to the 41-mile Suncoast Trail.  Walk, run or bike the trail and enjoy the beautiful scenery and gorgeous weather of the Tampa Bay Area.

Run The Boston Marathon Winners' Training Route While You Stay In Our Short Term Rentals

Go figure!   This years winner of the Boston Marathon, Meb Keflezighi visited Tampa in December 2013 and ran hundreds of miles on Bayshore Blvd. to help him prepare for the race.  Seems Meb's brother in law and sister live in the Tampa Bay area and he spent last Christmas with them.  Well, daily you could see him running the boulevard with University of Tampa's cross country coach riding beside him on a bike.  His pace?  4:50  minutes per mile.........not too shabby.    After an injury last year put him out of the 2013 Boston Marathon, Meb was determined to be in this years.  Especially with the events that transpired.  This was his inspiration and he was determined not only to race but to win.  He became the first American to win the race since 1983.  While you are living in a short term rental, be sure to take a stroll or run along Bayshore Blvd.  and you can say you ran the same roads that Meb did.

Wonderful Beaches Await You When You Stay In MacDill AFB Housing

 Your time living in MacDill AFB housing will present many opportunities to visit the local beaches.  So, where do you start?  Here's some suggestions.  A little south of Tampa, across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge you will find Anna Maria Island and some beautiful beaches on the Gulf of Mexico.  Enjoy the Beach Cafe at the end of SR 64, which takes you straight to the water.  The food is great and facilities wonderful.  You will be in the city of Holmes Beach.  There is free parking there, but arrive early; it fill quickly.  This beach has lifeguards, a playground, restrooms and umbrella and chair rentals.  In the evening you can find live music from local artists. Further south from Holmes Beach you will come to the city of Bradenton Beach and the public Coquina Beach.  This also has lifeguards, a snack-bar and restrooms. Both of these are beautiful white sand beaches with miles of great swimming, boating and fishing. Pets are not allowed at either of the locations, but along Rt. 64 there is Palma Sola Causeway where you can launch your boat and park for free.  And, you can bring your pets and they can get into the water too. There is a restroom here, but bring your own chairs and food because there is no snack bar or cafe.   And, no lifeguards here.
