Myakka River State Park

Located about one hours drive south of Tampa is the beautiful Myakka River State Park. This spectacular and diverse river flows through 58 square miles of wetlands, hammocks, prairies, and pinelands. The river and it two lakes attract a wide variety of wildlife.  A 7 mile scenic drive winds through moss covered shady oak trees and along the shores of the Upper Myakka Lake.  You'll want to bring a camera and a good pair of binoculars. There are many places where you can park and observe the wildlife. Spend the day biking, canoeing, fishing, walking, check out the canopy walk high above the ground, or take a cruise on an airboat to see a few gators. With 39 miles of hiking trails, the recreational opportunities to explore the park are endless. Myakka River State Park is one of the oldest parks in the state and was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934.
