Museum of Science and Industry IMAX Films

If you enjoy going to see a movie on the big screen, you will absolutely love seeing a film at the IMAX theatre. The visual and sound presentation that you’ll experience at the Museum of Science and Industry IMAX Theatre is like nothing you’ve ever seen. So...hop in the car and go check out a new movie this weekend!

Now playing:

Flight of the Butterfly

In the film, we follow the story of PS 397, the monarch butterfly tag that was released by two school boys and their teacher from Chaska Minnesota in early August 1975. This same tag and butterfly ended up being the very one Dr. Fred Urquhart found four months later, on January 9th, 1976, 10,000 feet high in the remote Sierra Madre Mountains of Michoacán Mexico. The butterfly would have flown over 2,000 miles and for at least two months to get there. Fred discovered it five minutes after he arrived in the sanctuary for the first time – truly a miraculous situation, verified by eyewitnesses.

Great White Shark

Great White Shark will explore the Great White’s place in our imaginations, our unfounded fears of this majestic predator, and its vital role in the oceanic ecosystems since the dawn of the dinosaurs. The film takes audiences to three key shark aggregation points around the world, from New Zealand’s Stewart Island, where a newly discovered healthy population of Great Whites has had little contact with man, to Mexico’s Guadalupe Island; where Great Whites troll crystal clear waters and researchers conduct critical tagging operations to monitor movement and behavior.
