Navigate airport security quicker

If you had a chance to fly this week, you know how much time it takes to get through the security lines at any major airport. It can be exasperating trying to guess what time you’ll need to arrive at the airport to allow enough time for the security check.  Here are a couple of tips that might help you breeze right through the security process. We hope you have a safe and very Happy New Year !

Black Diamond Lines
There are 51 airports in the U.S. that have black diamond lines. These lines sort travelers by their degree of experience going through security. You don’t have to do anything to qualify for these lines other than to know that they do exist. Airlines will direct their frequent flyers to these special lines. All you have to do is ask an airline representative when you arrive at the airport. Oftentimes, black diamond lines are out of view from the rest of the travelers.

CLEAR Kiosks

CLEAR- is a new non-governmental system for pre-clearing travelers and allowing them to move to the front of security lines. It may sound pricey but….. for $179 bucks a year, travelers with U.S. passports can register online and then attend sessions in which their retinas and fingerprints are recorded. When you arrive at the airport, you’ll go to a CLEAR kiosk, get biometrically identified, and then go straight to the front of the line.

Beet juice for icy roads ?

I know it sounds like one of those urban legends, but the use of beet juice mixed with salt brine is being applied to roadways to help with deicing. Now, I like juice, and definitely love beets, but I never heard of spreading it on roads to help with ice. Apparently, it’s now being used in Canada and the United States, and when used in the right mixture, this “organic liquid deicing “can reduce the amount of salt by 30%. If visions of purple roadways are dancing in your head…sorry to disappoint you....the special mixture is actually a brownish hue. It’s interesting to know that a little beet juice can go a long way and help save us a ton of money. And, if there’s less salt on the road, it could mean less corrosion for our cars. I like that idea. Bring on the juice!

Last Lunar Landing

It’s hard to believe how fast time goes by! Forty years ago this week, NASA launched Apollo 17 for its last mission to land men on the moon. This was also the first time that NASA had launched at night. I remember our family gathering around the TV every time they launched, but to witness the 363ft rocket   soaring through the night’s sky was unforgettable. With long flames blasting from its engines and huge plumes of smoke, it was every kid’s dream to experience a launch in person at Cape Canaveral.  Eugene Cernan, Harrison “Jack” Smith and Ronald Evans were the three astronauts aboard Apollo 17 on this last and final flight. With all the amazing technology being developed today, it kind of makes you wonder how far a manned ship will go into space on day. Only time will tell.
