Long before electric lights, farmers
needed to extend their workdays by gathering their crops by moonlight. It was
the only way they could find the extra window necessary to harvest everything
in time for the market. The full moon closest to the autumnal equinox became
known as the “Harvest Moon”. You can check out the spectacular Harvest Moon
tonight as it rises just after sunset. In the northern hemisphere, the autumnal
equinox lands on September 22 this year. So…just a few days left of summer!
